Visitors reports in Google Analytics

Geo Map Overlay   3 star rating

Geo map overlay report

Know where your visitors are located and learn more about how they use your site and which cities/countries/regions provide you with the highest quality visitors, allowing you to allocate more budget to marketing optimization efforts in the more profitable geographical areas. The report shows you a large interactive world map, showing you the several standard report values (visits, page views, bounce rate, goal conversion etc.) in shades of green, according to the values for each region. You can view data for the following geographical instances: Continent, Sub Continent Region, Country and City. Besides viewing the data at these various levels of detail, the world map also shows you more detail.

New vs. Returning   2 star rating

Site stickiness is usually an important indicator of how your site is perceived by your visitors. If the percentage new visitors of an established ecommerce site is as high as 90% customer retention rates are unlikely to be healthy.

Language   2 star rating

A basic report providing you with a view of the languages set in visitors’ operating systems. Quite handy if your site is multilingual but it might be a little deceiving in suggesting that this can be linked to geographical division of languages. Keep in mind that US English is the default language for many operating systems installed in countries/regions where English is not the main language.

Visitor Trending   3 star rating

visitor trending

This is a sub-group of reports that show you the most basic visitor statistics, most of which can be accessed on the main dashboard: Counts of visits, Absolute unique visitors, Page views, Average Page views, Time on site and Bounce rate. Basic statistics but for most sites one or more of these metrics will be a standard KPI.It’s a shame that these basic reports don’t provide you with, for example, the segmentation function. It would be an easy and quick way to discover more about which particular visitors tend to leave the site straight away and will tell you whether your marketing campaigns need to be adjusted to target better converting visitors.

Visitor Loyalty   2 star rating

Another sub-group of reports with more in-depth info about returning visitors. The Loyalty report maps out how many visits you’ve received from your returning visitors, while the Recency report tells you how much time passes in between visits. The length of visit is a more elaborate version of the Bounce rate stats. Besides knowing how many leave straight away you get a decent indication how interesting the content or products are that you offer your visitors, of which Depth of Visit gives you a different view (how many pages were viewed per visit). Again, it’s a shame that this data cannot be cross-referenced straight away from these reports. It’d be quite interesting to have a one-click view of the channels through which visitors were attracted of better (converting) quality.

Browser capability   1 star rating

Internet browser logos

Know more about the browsers, operating systems, screen colors and screen resolutions are used by the visitors that use your site. Flash Versions and Java Support will allow you to plan Flash and Java(script) features better also.

Network Properties   1 star rating

Detailed information of the networks and ISPs used by your visitors but also what the available bandwidth of your visitors is, which provides you with an indicator of how content-heavy you can afford to make your site. If your site attracts a large amount of low-bandwidth users, you might want to stay away from heavy Flash content, for example.

User Defined

user defined

This report allows you to compare visitors from custom segments that you have defined by including the utm_setvar function in your website code. For example, if visitors fill out a form on your site in which they provide a professional title (such as “manager”, “technical specialist”, “marketer”), you can call utm_setvar to capture and store their selections in the user defined variable.
